On Sunday, April 22nd in a ceremony that took place at St. Patrick Cathedral, Adam Andreani, Philip Dever, Lawrence Merriam and Connor Scott received the
Pope Pious XII Emblem. The young men received the emblem from Cardinal Dolan. Mr. Fred Compton and Mr. Brian Dever worked with the young men in preparation for this emblem named after Pope Pious XII who believed in the moral goodness of young people, and was a
staunch supporter of the Scouting movement. On the same day Cardinal Dolan also awarded Sean Degl, David Mendoza, Michael O’Shaughnessy, and Alexander Stearns with the
Ad Altare Dei (to the altar of God) Emblem. This emblem was the very first religious emblem program of any faith officially recognized by the Boy Scouts of America and its purpose is to help Catholic Scouts develop a fully Christian way of life in the faith
community. Two of our scout leaders also received awards. Brian Dever and Jerry O’Shaughnessy were recognized for providing outstanding religious and education programs with the Pope Paul VI Recognition Award. Troop 238 is proud of all that these exemplary scouts have accomplished.
