A powerful docu-drama of St. Josephine Bakhita, a humble slave who survived inhuman treatment to become Sudan’s first saint. Taken as a child by Arab slave-traders, she was eventually liberated by a kind Italian consulate who entrusted her to the care of the Canossian Sisters. Learning about the Catholic faith and the love of God, she became a holy woman and an inspiration to all. This “Universal Sister” of the Black Community demonstrates that God’s love is stronger than any humiliation and suffering. Since her death in 1947, many miracles have been attributed to her intercession. She was beatified in 1992 and declared a saint by St. Pope John Paul II in 2000.
This program dramatizes her extraordinary life, which is recalled through a Canossian Sister, sharing details with her spiritually searching brother. In Italian with dubbed English track voice over. 58min.
