Cardinal Dolan is asking for the prayers and support of the people of the archdiocese on behalf of those in Turkey and Syria. More than 21,000 people have been killed and tens of thousands injured after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck those countries. Teams are racing to rescue survivors as aid agencies warn that new snowfall, as well as a lack of water, communications, and power, could cause a deadly “secondary disaster.” Cardinal Dolan is asking the parishes for help. Whatever you can donate would be much appreciated. Please drop a check made out to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church (MEMO: Earthquake) in the collection. We will send a parish check for the total collected before February 27th. The Cardinal will then distribute funds received to relief agencies: Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Near East Welfare Association, the Pontifical Mission Society, and Aid to the Church in Need. He will also send some to the Orthodox Patriarch in Constantinople. Funds will go to all suffering victims of any creed.
